Enter your church's website into the Surefish Church Website of the Year competition. Local, regional and national websites can be nominated, as well as Christian youth sites, blogs and the most innovative websites.

Feel free to ask any questions on this thread.

My thanks to all who have helped with the competition so far, and for all those going to enter!

Andy

Editor Andy (14/03/2009)

Feel free to ask any questions on this thread.

Thanks for giving us a forum to talk about this.

I have a couple of questions if I may

I noticed that the nominated websites page has not been updated for nearly a month. Is there a problem with it?

What is the procedure when a site is nominated? The reason I ask is that the website of a neighbouring church was nominated over a week ago and they have heard nothing.

Thanks again and God bless

imho

Hi,

Apologies for the delay in replying - I've been on annual leave.

All entries get an online acknowledgement when we receive it, and the nominated websites links page http://www.surefish.co.uk/web/nominated.htm
states that we will check all websites before we publish a link to them to make sure they are genuine church websites, and not anything else!

Because of another website editor's maternity leave, Surefish is now a one person job which I do two days a week, along with all other tasks my paymasters demand, and so where I try and keep up to date with entries, there will be delays, for which I humbly ask for your continued patience!

Thanks,

Andy

We have been encouraged and have entered our church website for the 2009 Church Website of the Year.  A large jump, for us! It is part of our village website which has very limited software - the (google) church blog gives much more freedom as per this email.

The PCC likes the idea of combining with the village to give more support to each other for the community. Will that have a detrimental effect on how our website is viewed by the judges?  We are still very much finding our way with limited IT knowledge, but are keen to outreach through the web.

Fantastic idea. I have a question that I'd like to raise. You have said that the competition will "......recognise the unsung heroes that work behind the scenes to promote the life and work of their churches online. They deserve the recognition.” but how will the judges be able to determine the websites that have been created by professional design companies or web designers from those that have been created by dedicated amateurs within the church?

I must say that, given the above question, I was shocked to see that at least 7 out of the 10 finalists were designed by professional companies, three of them by the same company, and two of those which don't actually state that they were professionally designed definitely have that look & feel.

A very poor show, IMHO
