Suzanne Elvidge goes online to show you what how computers and water can mix

It has been a bit too damp to play with water outside – so why not play with virtual water inside (but don’t forget to keep real water away from your computer, unless you’ve got a waterproof one).

All games are free downloads or free to view online, and need the minimum of equipment.

Some games require your browser to have a 'plug in' for Shockwave, Flash or Java.

To play a game, simply click on its name. If you are a parent, we advise you to try the game and the site it's on first before letting your kids play them, to make sure you're happy. (And, don't forget, you can also find great games for kids in our own Global Gang area)

When downloading games from the Internet, don't forget to keep your anti-virus and anti-spyware software up to date.

Wildlife and Water

A water quiz from San Diego Zoo, all about animals and plants. Select your answer and click on the ‘Check answer’ button to move onto the next question – you get your score at the end. Warning – rather annoying music!

Water Cycle word game

Educational, this one. Water on Earth moves in a cycle – sometimes it’s on the ground, sometimes its moving through plants, sometimes it’s in the air. Use your mouse to drag the descriptions to the right part of the water cycle, and right click to check if you are correct.

Droplet and the Water Cycle

You can download this one or play it online. Educational again, but a fun platform game too. You are Droplet, a water molecule, and you have got to run, jump, climb, slide, take rides on passing leaves, and stun your enemies on your way through the forest, river, sea, and back to the clouds. Don’t forget that everything needs water to stay alive, so watch out for thirsty creatures.

Water Game

This game was created during 2005 by Tearfund and WaterAid – see how much EU funding you can catch for water and sanitation (the action link at the end is no longer valid). There are more water games on the WaterAid Splash Out site.

Water Alert!

Make sure that the people in the village have safe water and sanitation by working with the villagers and helping them decide what to do. The better your decisions, the more points you gain.

Yet another website that I wish I had never discovered – I am now completely hooked. Like doing jigsaws but fed up of that last piece going down the back of the sofa? Then this is the site for you. Jigsaws with 6 to 247 pieces – you can even create jigsaws from your own photos.

Island Game

Scottish Water’s Island Game – an island full of games and quizzes. Each game will change how the island looks. Play games about rubbish, sewage (lovely), and the water cycle.

Water Fight

No idea what is going on here as it’s all in Korean, but it seems to involve water balloons and yet more annoying music…
